In 2017, the Malaysian Nature Society (MNS) launched “MY Forest” – a subset of a larger EU project seeking to strengthen non-state actor involvement in forest governance in Malaysia. A key component of the “MY Forest” is “Malaysia Forest Watch,” a web and social media-based platform for accessing and sharing Malaysian deforestation and conservation data. MNS is a recipient of the #SmallGrantsFund (SGF) from @GlobalForests, Facebook Link & Instagram Link, which supports civil society organizations around the world applying GFW tools & data to their forest monitoring work. Under SGF project, MNS work with citizen science network to adopt Forest Watcher as a principal fieldwork tool for the Malaysian Forest Watch initiative. MNS goal is to strengthen the forest monitoring capacities of citizen scientists to better protect key forest landscapes across peninsular Malaysia.
