Festival of Wings 2021 (Pesta Sayap 2021)

Festival of Wings or known as Pesta Sayap is a unique community carnival that takes place in the Kuala Selangor Nature Park that is organized annually by the Malaysian Nature Society (MNS) with the support of the Kuala Selangor City Council (MPKS) and Selangor State Government to celebrate the biodiversity at Kuala Selangor which includes the migratory and resident birds that flock around Kuala Selangor during the migration season, the world-famous synchronous fireflies and the beautiful mangrove forests. It was developed out of the need to raise awareness of the importance of birds, fireflies, and mangroves in Kuala Selangor and as a way of bringing nature to the virtual scene during pandemic, to introduce and share collected data regarding local and migratory birds at selected sites at Kuala Selangor Nature Park, and to promote the nature park itself as an eco-tourism destination.

This year’s theme “Sing, Fly, Soar – Like A Bird!” focuses on the phenomena of “bird song” and “bird flight” as a way to inspire and connect people of all ages around the world in their shared desire to protect and celebrate migratory birds.

As we were in the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic, the celebration of Pesta Sayap in line with MNS as the Asian Birdlife Partners brought a new level of awareness and appreciation of birds and the importance of nature for our own well-being.
