Raids on exotic meat restaurants lead to seizures and arrests

In a late night operation on the 6th of July 2007, wildlife authorities raided 10 restaurants in Kahang, a town in the southern Malaysian state of Johor, seizing more than 300kg of meat of several wildlife species. Kahang is the gateway to Endau Rompin National Park, oneof three priority tiger conservation sites in Malaysia.

Call to tame China's tiger farms

The Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species meeting passed a resolution endorsing captive stocks only where they aid conservation. China has about 5,000 tigers held in captive enclosures - more animals than remain in the wild.

India wins battle with China to save tiger

NEW DELHI: Tigers will not be bred for trade in their parts and derivatives. On Wednesday, 169 member-countries of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species (CITES), meeting at The Hague, passed a resolution, dashing China’s plan — backed by a business model of farming captive-bred tigers — to undo a 14-year-old ban on tiger trade.
